Side-by-Side Rope Jumping
Japanese name: 横並び縄跳び
Materials
- Two short jump ropes
How to play
- Stand side by side, each with a short rope. Exchange the two neighboring handles so the pair controls both ropes together.
- With ropes still, check which handles you hold and which direction to turn. First swing forward and practice stepping over.
- On “Ready, go!”, turn at matching speed and make a small jump together as the ropes reach your feet.
- If a rope catches, both stop and untangle before restarting. Never pull your partner along.
- Aim for three consecutive jumps, then five. Rest every minute and change sides or partners.
Ways to adapt
Younger primary school children: one jump at a time. Older primary school children: consecutive-jump records.
